Cran Marnier Truffles

Cran Marnier Truffles

Decadence – unrestrained or excessive self-indulgence.  Yeah, that’s this.

One truffle is all you’ll need to send you into bliss, but no one will judge for indulging in several more.

Rolo Pretzel Delights

Rolo Pretzel Delights

We’re going to take this nice and slow.  Nobody gets hurt… not on my watch!

With the shopping, the decorating, the hustle, the bustle, the cooking, the baking, the go, go, go… it’s easy to go nuts, it’s easy to land yourself in the Emergency Room with a bagel cutting knife injury, or overdose on flour ingestion.  Not this year!

And so begins it.  Three ingredients.  Minimal prep.  Minimal cook time.  Ultimate delight.

Chocolate Stout S’More Shakes

Chocolate Stout S'More Shakes

Note to self:  when grilling marshmallows over an open flame for the purpose of making s’mores, do not, if said marshmallows catch on fire, flail the skewer around wildly, to put out the flame.  You might fling it onto a stranger’s leg and catch their pant leg on fire… true story, me… this past Memorial Day.

In that vein, and the fact that there was a call for more creative S’more recipes, I bring you my Stout S’more Shakes, less chance of catching anyone on fire here.

Drunken Sugar Plums

Drunken Sugar Plums

Drunken sugar plums… over the course of my life I’ve performed in 100s of Nutcrackers during the holiday season, and I must say, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a drunken sugar plum fairy.   This may seem like a useless fact, but considering how much those Russians love their vodka, when it dawned on me, it seemed like a big deal.

This is the ultimate homemade treat for the beer and sweets lover in your life.  You know when you bite into a cordial cherry and that goo oozes out and tastes amazing… this beer, plum, and chocolate combo create the same intoxicating affect.

Heaven & Hell Cake

“So that’s 10 minutes on the bicycle, 10 minutes on the treadmill, a full set of legs and 30 minutes on the elliptical – that should allow me two hunks of cheese and two beers later.”

I’m not the only one calculating calories burned into what I can indulge in later, am I???

I bring up this small neurosis because this cake is totally worth conserving and calculating calories for!  Of course you can always throw caution to the wind and dive right in – I have a sneaking suspicion that calories might be like germs, designed to scare us and suck all the fun out of living, but don’t really exist. (Kidding!)

HAPPY SUPER BOWL SUNDAY! Have a Pudding Shot!

Throughout the course of the past five years, chances are, on any given day,  you could open my freezer and find the following : bags of creamed spinach and… PUDDING SHOTS!

Pudding shots came into my life through a website that I stumbled upon in 2007.  Ladies… is a sports site, by women, for woman – so instantly, I was hooked.  Over the course of the next few years I followed it religiously, and made almost everything that came up on Football Foodie Fridays.

In 2009 they put out an open call for writers and I, being a huge sports fan, threw my hat in the ring.  I soon joined this band of amazing ladies, and trial and errored my way through WordPress.  After about a month I realized it was a breeze and subsequently threw up this here cooking site.  The rest is how you say, history.  I wanted to take this opportunity to thank the wonderful women who I’ve had the pleasure of emailing with and writing along side for the past few years.  I’m so honored to be a part of this site, and though I’ve fallen off in my posting and presence on the site, I’m still there in spirit.

Orange Bittersweet Chocolate Cake with Blood Orange Compote

One of my goals for cooking in 2012 is “seasonal.”  Seasonal eating isn’t one of those hokey new-age eating fads, it’s one of the most simple and beautiful ways to fuel your body.  The earth is offering up these fruits and veggies at a certain time, practically begging us to eat them.  How cool is that?!

So what does this have to do with an orange chocolate cake? I’m getting to that.  Blood oranges are currently “in season” in my area and I’ve been dying to throw them into a delicious dish.  Enter… the cake!
