How can I top a recipe for spreadable bacon? I probably can’t. But lickable, frozen beer… comes pretty damn close!
This recipe is perfect for the impending super hot months and Memorial Day weekend.
These are definitely not those long plastic pops that we delighted in sucking the last bit of purple juice from, they’re a little more grown-up, a little more refined, a lot more yummy.
If you have a way of keeping them cold, they’d be a great treat to bring to a picnic, beach, river, wherever you want a nice jolt of cold and refreshment.
This recipe makes about 12 small pops, but it’s easily doubled if you need more treats.
21st Amendment Brewery out of San Francisco, California is quite honestly… the jam. Monk’s Blood, Bitter American, Brew Free or Die are some amazing brews and they are housed in the coolest little cans out there. Grab some if you can. Hahaha, no pun intended.
But the beer that adds its intensity and flavor to these pops is their Hell or High Watermelon Wheat. It’s the drinking man, or women’s, answer to the perfect sippable Spring/Summer beer. It’s light, refreshing, and interesting, without sacrificing anything you love about craft beer.
A wheat beer flavored with fresh watermelon puree, matched with sweet Agave, zippy mint and lime and rounded off with freshly pureed watermelon equals delicious! People will love them, you’ll look like a rockstar – it’s a win/win situation!
I picked up the cute sticks at Michael’s in the wooden crafting section, and got 4 ounce Dixie Cups at the super market.
Watermelon Beer Popsicles
1/2 cup Agave Nectar
small bunch of mint, chopped
1/2 seedless watermelon, cubed
1 can 21st Amendment Hell or High Watermelon Wheat
In a small saucepan, bring Agave Nectar and chopped mint to a boil over medium-high heat. Remove from heat and let come back to room temp.
Zest lime into Agave mixture. Juice same lime.
In a food processor, pulse watermelon until it is smooth, leaving a few small chunks in juice.
Add watermelon and beer to the Agave mixture.
Pour liquid into 4 ounce Dixie Cups, approximately 3/4 full. Place cups on a freezable tray and place in freezer. Carefully push popsicle sticks into the pops when they are firm, but not completely frozen. Allow to freeze for at least a few hours, but preferable overnight.
