As those of you who link up with me on Facebook know, I’ve recently been contemplating the fate of this here blog. Recent weeks, chats, and further thought have brought me no closer to knowing if this is the end… or not. But this I do know, if I’m going out, if this is where our journey ends, it ends with two of my favorite things… Food & Football!
So join me as we spend the next two weeks in 14 football foodie recipes, designed to tickle the taste buds of your Super Bowl watching pals. And if football isn’t for you, if you have no intention of watching the big game, no worries, these recipes stand on their own, are delicious, and perfect for your entertaining needs.
Now, on to the eats.
I legit tried to track down a statistic on the amount of cream cheese sold from the middle of November till Super Bowl time. I mean think about it, this dairy giant is added to just about everything during the holidays, and I ain’t mad at it.
Boursin spread… without being able to feed it to you directly through this post, there’s not much I can say that will convey it’s deliciousness. Seven assorted spices and herbs conspire to wreck your diet and convince you to devour the entire ball.
It couldn’t be easier to throw together. Just make sure your butter and cream cheese are softened, and that you give yourself time to let it set, so that you can form a pretty little ball.
I love serving this with a thick, hard, crusty pretzel, as it can stand up to the dipping and abuse of the massive Boursin Ball.
You might want to ration your hovering/snacking time… it will suck you in!
8 ounces softened whipped butter
16 ounces softened cream cheese
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon marjoram leaves
1/4 teaspoon basil
1/4 teaspoon dill weed
1/4 teaspoon oregano
1/4 teaspoon celery seed
1/4 teaspoon chopped pecans
Stir all ingredients, except nuts, together by hand. Chill. Form into a ball and roll in chopped pecans. Tasty served with pieces of thick, broken pretzels.
